Industrial Black Metal Pioneers

Mysticum stands as the epitome of industrial black metal—a pioneering force that forged a soundscape of cold, mechanical fury fused with bleak, haunting atmospheres. Their history is marked by relentless innovation and an uncompromising dedication to darkness.
THE ETHER IS THE ENEMY OF THE MIND
Emerging from Norway’s frostbitten underground in 1992 under the name Sabazios, Mysticum’s journey has been one of relentless upheaval and artistic defiance.
The Genesis of a New SoundLET THE MADNESS BEGIN
Formed by Cerastes (guitars, vocals), Ravn (guitars, vocals), and Mean Malmberg (bass, synth, and programming), Mysticum introduced an entirely novel approach to black metal. Their 1993 demo, Wintermass, shattered conventions with its icy riffs, computer-programmed drums, and chilling soundscapes. This was black metal, but not as the world knew it. Renaming to Mysticum in April 1993, the band set forth on a path that would redefine the genre.
